"Falling Soldier", Photo: Robert Capa/Magnum Photos
Just a couple of notes for this coming month:
- The above photo, “Falling Soldier” by Robert Capa taken during the Spanish Civil War, is one of the most enduring images of warfare in the 20th century. However, with recent research showing that it was faked, the New York Times has written an article about the history of doctored or staged photographs. Also check out the slide show.
- A Picasso painting taken by Saddam’s soldiers after the 1990 Iraqi invasion of Kuwait has been recovered. A suspect is accussed of attempting to sell the $10 million painting for $450,000. More…..***
- More close to home, both the Cincinnati Art Museum (here) and the Taft Museum of Art (here) have announced their 2009-2010 exhibition seasons. Watch this space for other museums’ exhibition announcements as they become available.
***UPDATE: Some art experts are beginning to express some doubts about the authenticity of the Picasso painting…
